The issue is Congress attempting to shift the merchant's costs of interchange - what the merchant pays when they accept and process debit and credit cards - to us and millions of other consumers.
Even though merchants who accept these cards have already built the interchange processing as a cost of doing business, the push is to pass these costs on to consumers.
If this change is approved, Patriot Federal Credit Union as well as all financial institutions that issue debit and credit cards will lose income from interchange. And, to offset these costs, financial institutions will have to pass them along to consumers.
